Wow...hard to believe we have been here 4 months now.  Life has been fairly normal on camp when compared to home.  It actually feels like we have stepped into a time warp and gone back to the 50's or something.  The kids play outside for hours at the park , even after dark, and you don't worry about them like you do at home.  Only a fall from the equipment would be your biggest worry.  Halloween was super sweet too.  The kids got to trick or treat safely....go in peoples houses, and accept homemade goodies as well.  Our neighbors even baked cupcakes and cookies and the kids got to decorate them with cool frosting like booger green and mud :).  It was great.  Thanksgiving was shared with other Americans here.  We had turkey with all the trimmings and a mountain of desserts along with our feast!  I guess I never realized how much Thanksgiving is such an American holiday until being here.  It was just another day for most of the people and I even had some ask me what it was all about.  Good thing I knew my history!  I have made friends with people from all over the world and so have my daughters.  That has been awesome.  Mahala is in 1st grade and is loving it.  Piera and I keep busy with FOLKS(friends of little kids) which us Moms get to have coffee and adult conversation while the kids play for a couple of hours.  It meets 4 times a week and she loves it! She has often made friends with other little ones and they had the best time and neither one could speak the others language!  Too funny.  If only all us adults could get along like that the world would be a much better place.  I have found the ladies here to be very sweet and lovely people.  It is very cool to be a part of their world because Roger cannot mingle with them the way I can.  I have enjoyed talking with women from Pakistan, Egypt, Kazikstan(not sure how to spell that one), Romania, New Zealand, Ghana, and African countries as well as the UK.  Oh, and get this....they love MY accent!  How funny is that?  We usually think they all speak so eloquently and now I find out I have an accent to be coveted! I am looking forward to coming home at Christmas and expressing my new accents I have picked up.  Watch out everyone, you might not recognize me when I bust out my new voices. haha   See you all soon and fire up the BBQ's cause it's been a LLLLOOOOONNNGGG time since I 've had some!

Bahrain

Well, due to some delay in getting our multi-entry exit visa we couldn't setup our trip to Dubai Palm Islands for my birthday. So, just as enjoyable we went to the Marriot Exec. Apartments for a night. We enjoyed it tremendously. We had a good friend Gina with us. We had hoped that our other buddy Sam and his gal Melanie could have made it. Finally got some Tom Kha Soup (Thai food). Love to all and this trip just might make this whole thing worth it!

We Made The News!

We Made The News!

2 months!

Hi Everyone!  Donna here, and yes it has been 2 months since we got to Saudi Arabia.  There is so much to tell so I will start at the beginning.  After finally getting everything packed and shipped which I believe was my last post, we had the plane ride.  Now this was something I had been fearing would be so disastrous and horrible for the simple fact that it was at least 14 hours in the air with a 6 year old and a 2 year old.  I readied myself like I was going into battle.  I packed blankets and neck pillows for us all....coloring books, crayons,  books, snacks, extra clothes, pull-ups, wipes, and of course, all the valuables were with us as well.  I had the laptop, camera for the tv to skype with, my jewelry, our passports and other important documents all packed into our carry-ons.  My carry-on weighed about 42 lbs and I will NEVER do that to myself again! After dealing with the evil stewardess at baggage claim who freaked me out by saying my bags had to be under 50 lbs for this international flight, I had another sweet one who checked me in and yes, we were well under the 70 lb. limit which is for business class.  Since I had 6 huge suitcases to check in that would have been very costly!  The first short flight to DC was great.  It was the first time in the air for both girls and they were excited to say the least.  Both had window seats and it was fun.  We get to DC and I look for Qatar Airways and check in with them and the guy tells me we can go down to this lounge and eat for free since we are business class.  Let me just stop right here and say "Qatar Airways ROCKS".  From that moment on we were like Rockstars!  Now for some of you,  business class may be the norm, but for us , we fly in the cheap seats!  When we got back from eating, there was a huge line and I was not happy but we only stood in it for about 2 minutes before this man came and ushered me to the short line for bus.cl.  We get on and it was like a scene out of Pan Am.  The stewardesses in their cute little outfits and hats waiting on us hand and foot.....hot towel, cold towel, newspaper, slippers....even little Piera had to have her "cold towel".  Needless to say, I didn't use anything I had packed.  We were given blankets, pillows,  even pajamas if we wanted, and the seats turned into flat long beds.  Since we took off at 11pm,  Piera went to sleep about 30 minutes into the air.  YAY!  Mahala joined her an hour or 2 later, I did as well.  I slept maybe 6 hours which was pretty good I thought.  Piera slept til almost 7 so I thought went great.  The rest of our journey was great too.  In Qatar when we landed, they took us to a terminal with this gorgeous lounge complete with a spa.  I was truly wanting to ditch the kids for an hour and get a massage but no one would take them ;)  It is when you get to Dammam that you know you are not in Kansas anymore!

Sunset and Sunrise

Well, it has been almost 4 months for me and over 2 months for Donna and the kids. It has been in the least a roller coaster of emotions and events. The moment you feel you got things under some stability you find out you don't.  We can not click our heels and be back home with our family and friends so easily. But we have made wonderful friends with other fellow brothers and sister in Christ. I tell you that is not just a cliche saying. I can tell you that we are safe. I am taking back by the reality of the situation here and around us. We absolutely have promised each other that if one incident hits this country we will immediately request exit. Pray for us but pray for those that does the work of our Lord.
